By virtue of their being really dang good for the past several years, lottery selections have been few and far between for the Raptors. Not since the team took Jakob Poeltl with the ninth overall pick following the 2016 season have the Raptors been in the lottery.
And tonight’s lottery is even more interesting because this year’s draft pool is potentially quite deep! There’s a good chance that, even if the Raptors don’t make it into the top four, they’ll land a quality rotation player wherever they pick.
So let’s review the where, the what, and the who, and then sit back and watch!
Where to Watch
TSN1, 8:30 p.m. EST
What’s at Stake for the Raptors
The Raptors finished with the 7th-worst record in the NBA. That means they have the following lottery odds for each pick:
- #1: 7.5%
- #2: 7.8%
- #3: 8.1%
- #4: 8.5%
- #5-#6: 0%
- #7: 19.7%
- #8: 34.1%
- #9: 12.9%
- #10: 1.3%
- #11: <0.1%
So, all in all: A pretty good shot at a top-four pick! Given the team’s depth issues, getting a top four pick who can contribute right away would be extremely beneficial. But even if the pick comes in seventh or eighth, the team should be able to draft someone who can find a spot in the rotation.
As for the rest of the teams, here’s a complete breakdown:

What to Read to Prepare
Want to catch up on who’s who before the ping pong balls get bouncing? Our draft expert JD Quirante has his “Who should the Raptors select in various lottery landing spots?” guide ready for you! And if you want to take a slightly different approach, our guy Conor McCreery has analyzed who should win the top spot tonight.
Who’ll Be There:
As usual, NBA teams get to choose who’ll represent them at the lottery. This year, Fred “Bet on Yourself” VanVleet will be flashing his megasmile at the camera, and hopefully it won’t be a fake, “I can’t believe we got screwed smile,” but rather a real “Oh yeah, that’s why you send the ‘Bet in Yourself’ guy to the lottery” smile. (I also love the irony of an undrafted guy representing a team at the lottery, reminding us just how much of a crapshoot the whole thing really is.)

The Raptors have officially moved into the top four! More to come!
Update: 8:56 p.m.
The results are in! The Toronto Raptors will pick fourth in the 2021 NBA Draft. It’s a little bit of a disappointment, after the high of seeing them jump to top four, to then settle... for fourth. The top pick was in play! Alas.
But fourth overall? That’s good! That’s really good! The Raptors will acquire a useful player with that pick.
Update: 9:00 p.m.
Here is your official 2021 NBA Draft order:

- New Orleans

Yep — Dwane Casey did it to us again! Sigh.
So, with a top four pick, who do you have the Raptors taking? Jalen Green? Jalen Suggs? It might be a Jalen! Sound off in the comments with your thoughts on the results.
