NBA Trade Deadline 2019 HQ Thread

New, comments

It’s NBA Christmas! Let’s discuss all the rumours, deals, and general craziness of the NBA trade deadline, right here.

NBA Trade Deadline 2019 Toronto Raptors HQ Open Thread, Masai Ujiri Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

It’s here! NBA Trade Deadline Day! Did you think it would never come? Haven’t we had enough trades in the past week?

Only a few hours of madness remain. Who is moving? Who is staying? What is Masai Ujiri thinking about?

Ujiri is not usually a trade deadline guy... except when he is. Remember 2017, when he went out and grabbed Serge Ibaka and then flat stole P.J. Tucker?

Like that year, the feeling here is that the Raptors have a real window, but a very short one, and that may make Ujiri itchy. Will it be enough to make a deal? Is there a deal to be made?

Discuss in the comments below!

And stay hydrated. And warm! And be sure to hit up SB Nation’s rumour tracker to stay up-to-date on the latest.

Oh, and while you wait for the latest Woj bomb, be sure to hit up our recent Raptors-related trade coverage:

Daniel Hackett, as always, has your master look at the Raptors cap sheet and the types of deals they can make.

Conor McCreery wonders if the right trade is trading Kyle Lowry.

Josh Kern (hey, that’s me!) has your initial reaction to the 76ers’ acquisition of Tobias Harris, and Conor counter-punches with a look at what it means from the Clippers side — and Kawhi Leonard’s impending free agency.

More Conor? More Conor! He’s in with Sully Akbari and Thomas Mooney on this week’s HQ Roundtable, where they discuss trade targets, the buyout market and more.

I’ve also got the rundown on the one move the Raptors have already made, sending Malachi Richardson to Philadelphia to save a few bucks on the cap sheet.

12:05 p.m.: The Rockets have traded James Ennis to Philadelphia, for the right to swap second-round picks in 2021.

12:55 p.m.: The Pelicans have traded Nikola Mirotic to the Milwaukee Bucks (!) for Jason Smith and Stanley Johnson.

1:15 p.m.: The Rockets have traded Nik Stauskas and Wade Baldwin to the Pacers, along with a second-round pick. The Pacers intend to waive both players, apparently.

1:50 p.m.: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Garrett Temple and JaMychal Green to the Los Angeles Clippers for Avery Bradley.

1:55 p.m.: This is it! Oh man: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors for Jonas Valanciunas, C.J. Miles, Delon Wright and a 2024 second-round pick. Give yourselves a moment to pick your jaws up off the floor.

Read John Guades’ report for the full scoop!

2:30 p.m.: The Los Angeles Clippers are sending Mike Muscala to the Los Angeles Lakers for Michael Beasley and Ivica Zubac.

Less than 30 minutes to go!

2:35 p.m.: We are into the Skal Labissiere for Caleb Swanigan leg of the trade deadline, I see.

2:35 p.m.: The Memphis Grizzlies are steal dealing, sending Shelvin Mack to the Atlanta Hawks.

2:45 p.m.: The Philadelphia 76ers are sending Markelle Fultz (!) to the Orlando Magic for Jonathan Simmons and picks.

3:01 p.m.: Last one! The Boston Celtics are sending Jabari Bird to Atlanta, opening up a roster spot for the buyout market.

Looks like that’s it for today! Thoughts? Concerns? Did the Raptors do enough to keep up with Philadelphia and Milwaukee? Sound off in the comments!
