Raptors to hold pre-draft workout today for 6 new prospects

As is tradition, the Raptors continue to hold workouts for hopeful NBA prospects in advance of the league’s NBA Draft. Since that special day is now just one week away, we can assume the kitchen in Toronto is getting a bit hotter (or whichever metaphor you prefer).

Today, the Raptors announced they’ll be taking a look at the following six players.

First, this is a spectacular group of names, just in the phonetic sense. Second, we’ve got some actual ranked players here, with Gabriel coming at at 66 on CBS Sports‘ list, Pinson at 77, Terrell at 110, and Rodriquez at 111. For a team with no actual pick in the draft like the Raptors, that’s not nothing.

Now, as has become our new tradition, I asked our friend Mitch Robson, former HQ staffer and current NCAA maniac, for his thoughts on the players in Toronto today. Here is what he said, along with some pertinent stats and other info:

Jared Terrell

Vitals: 23 years old, 6’3”, 220 lbs

Averages: 16.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 41% 3PT%

Mitch’s Take: “Definition of grit, think Briante Weber-type tenacity on the defensive end.”

Zach Lofton

Vitals: 25 years old, 6’4”, 200 lbs

Averages: 20.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 38% 3PT%

Mitch’s Take: ”He played at four different colleges and is just a walking bucket, averaging 20 a game for New Mexico State this year.”

Theo Pinson

Vitals: 22 years old, 6’6”, 195 lbs

Averages: 10.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists

Mitch’s Take: ”He had an incredibly productive four year career as a Tar Heel and does the things that lead to 10 year careers as a role player.”

Desi Rodriguez

Vitals: 22 years old, 6’6”, 215 lbs

Averages: 17.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 37% 3PT%

Mitch’s Take: ”He has a ’MF you’ attitude since he’s from the Bronx. And he can score from all areas.”

Hayden Dalton

Vitals: 21 years old, 6’8”, 185 lbs

Averages: 17.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 40% 3PT%

Mitch’s Take: ”He is as white as the name sounds.”

Wenyen Gabriel

Vitals: 21 years old, 6’9”, 213 lbs

Averages: 6.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 40% 3PT%

Mitch’s Take: ”My sweet son Wenyen didn’t get to show his full potential with Kentucky but he has the perfect skill-set to be a stretch-4 with some time in the G League.”
