Did Masai make a mistake in trading Demarre Carroll away?

Here me out here.

I think we can all agree that at the time it seemed like a solid idea to trade Carroll who had under performed his contract and based on his statements after the trade, was unhappy here/

However, think about how things broke down after the trade. Toronto decided to address Carroll's primary complaint by reinventing the offense and moving away from the iso heavy action that was hurting the team. They then went out and signed-n-traded for a player to replace him (thus putting a hard cap on the team in the process) who ended up being worse overall, Miles, (based on advanced stats) and it cost Toronto a 1st round pick (which granted would be in the late 20's). If you look at it, Carroll was actually more valuable than Miles was.

Here are the important numbers.

Carroll - pts-13.5 FG% .414, 3pt% .371 (rate:.498, 2pt% - .457, TRB -6.6, ast-2.0, usg 19.8, ows 2.3, dws, 1.8, tws-4.1 bpm 0.2, vorp 1.2

Miles pts-10 fg%.379, 3pt%.361 (rate:), 2pt%-.434, TRB-2.2, ast-0.8, usg-22.3,ows1.4,dws 1.5, tws-2.9, bpm -0.5, vorp 0.5

Now Demarre played more minutes than Miles did but you can make some guesses as to how he would have fit into the second unit. Not to mention that he is stronger than Miles and wouldn't have been pushed around as much as Miles was in the playoffs.

Just something to think about.
