To echo last night’s Game Thread, Kawhi Leonard is ducking Joe Ingles! Just kidding, but the Toronto Raptors are again going to have to make do without their superstar on a Monday night. Leonard will sit once again with soreness after jamming his ankle against Phoenix.
To mirror that on the home side, the Jazz will be without their star and leading scorer (22.4 points per game) in Donovan Mitchell, who sits out with an ankle sprain. The Raptors have adjusted their starting lineup to match up with Utah’s massive frontcourt of Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert, starting Jonas Valanciunas over the red hot (who saw it coming??) Serge Ibaka.
Stuff to watch for: whether the starters having to come back in to close against the Lakers last night has any ill effects. The Raptors face a Jazz defence that threatens physicality, but has actually struggled early in the season.
Also, can the Raptors bench get it going again? Ibaka joins a struggling unit where C.J. Miles, Norman Powell, and Fred VanVleet are all riding short cold streaks coming into this one. It’d be extra fun to see a few shots fall for those guys.
Anyway, the Raptors are 9-1. Let’s revel in this game, the third in four nights, as the team is just a couple nights away from ending this west coast swing.
