Raptors coach Dwane Casey was late for his customary pre-game scrum with the media. That’s no big deal, as it happens from time to time when downtown Toronto traffic is bad. Why Casey doesn’t just take the subway is a mystery to me, but given the calamity of the day, maybe he was scared off. In any case, I didn’t get to ask.
Meanwhile, Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau was apparently late too. Not sure if he’s driving in from somewhere, or just decided to sprint over from the hotel (which is presumably close by). Coaching mysteries abound!
Hmmm, what else is different for the Raptors and Wolves? I know! This time Jimmy Butler is going to play. This means all hands on deck for Toronto, as Butler has single-handedly destroyed the Raps in the past. (Pour one out, if you dare, for DeMarre Carroll.) Fortunately, almost everyone will be here — C.J. Miles is getting the night off due to knee soreness, and Fred VanVleet, fresh off welcoming a new baby into the world, is apparently barrelling down to the arena now. Hope he doesn’t get stuck in traffic.
In any case, that’s all fine, except the Timberwolves are apparently ticked off. They lost a tough game to the lowly Atlanta Hawks on Monday, and come into Toronto as “mad as a wet hen,” according to Casey. No mystery here, and we don’t have to mention conditions on the road: I believe him.
Now here’s our man John Gaudes with the full Raptors-Timberwolves preview. What more could you ask for?
