After beating the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night in Toronto, Raptors head coach Dwane Casey clinched his spot at the 2018 NBA All-Star game. He’s now the first coach in Raptors’ franchise history to earn the honour. In a bonus delightful twist, he’ll coach against his two stars, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan — they’re on Team Curry.
With the win, the Raptors moved to 33-15, which puts them second in the conference. Since Celtics coach Brad Stevens was the All-Star bench boss last year, he’s ineligible (and since the Cavaliers have slid, Tyronn Lue won’t be able to win enough games).
We’ve been over how good of a coach Dwane Casey is, what he’s managed to do with the Raptors during his long tenure here, and what he’s still hoping to do while in Toronto. Casey said post-game (after dodging what must have been a hell of a soaking, given how drenched Rex Kalamian looked when he popped out of the locker room), it was good for the Raptors organization, and he was proud to be able to garner the accolades for the team.
The 2018 NBA All-Star Game will be held on Sunday, February 18th in Los Angeles.
