Raptors 905 will host the 2018 G League showcase — Blake Murphy of Raptors Republic first reported the news. Murphy also states that the plan is for them to host the 2019 showcase as well — making it three-straight years that the showcase will call Mississauga’s Hershey Centre home.
Arguably the most important set of dates on the G-League calendar, the showcase sees each G-League team play two games, both counting towards the regular season. Taking place in January after teams can start to sign players to 10-day contracts, the showcase is a magnet for executives and scouts from every team looking to add to their NBA roster. With it taking place a week out from the trade deadline, and with a lot of top executives in the same building, it can also help kick-start trade talks.
After a tremendous 2017 showcase, it’s a big get for the Raptors organization to have the showcase entrusted to them for two more years. Just two years into existence, it’s remarkable how quickly Mississauga and the 905 have moved near the top of the G-League’s ladder of influence.
