The Raptors have the 23rd pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and, as such, are starting to unveil what they plan to do with it. Look at that header image of Jakob Poeltl (9th pick) and Norman Powell (46th pick) and revel in the excitement. New players coming to the Raptors? Get up!
On May 17th, 18th, 22nd (no holidays in the NBA, son!), and 23rd, the Raptors will host a series of workouts for potentially incoming players. The names of said athletes are still to be determined, but we’ll try to get that information to you as it becomes available.
Keep in mind of course that the Raptors tend to use these workouts as a bit of misdirection. We never got the official announcement last year regarding Poeltl or the team’s eventual 27th pick, Pascal Siakam. Both were worked out in secret in Buffalo, New York — owing to visa issues — and it came as something of a surprise when their names were announced on draft day. (OK, the selection of Jak wasn’t super surprising; he was expected to go ninth, but still.)
The NBA Draft Lottery is tonight — the Raps will mercifully not be involved — and the day of the draft is on June 22nd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Get ready.
