Raptors snag 10th spot on NBA’s most popular merchandise list

The swag is something.

NBA: Miami Heat at Toronto Raptors John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

Based on the NBA store’s official sales, the Raptors are the 10th most popular team in terms of moving merchandise. What does this have to do with anything? Nothing, but it at least suggests there are fans of the Raps. (Or that the organization conveniently had the team wear six different jerseys this season.)

Here’s the full team list:

Top 10 Most Popular Team Merchandise:

1. Golden State Warriors

2. Cleveland Cavaliers

3. Chicago Bulls

4. Lakers Los Angeles

5. New York Knicks

6. San Antonio Spurs

7. Oklahoma City Thunder

8. Boston Celtics

9. 76ers Philadelphia

10. Toronto Raptors

Not surprisingly, the Warriors and Cavaliers top the list — frontrunners run forever — and the big market teams in Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia and New York are also represented. It’s cool to see the Spurs and Thunder make it on there, owing to, presumably, the same sort of aforementioned frontrunning sensibility (but I’m no economics major so don’t quote me on that).

Toronto makes the list by virtue of having the run of an entire country, being a good team, and also have dope-as-hell jerseys. Congrats.

For the most popular individual players, the merch ranks are as such:

Top 15 Most Popular NBA Jerseys:

1. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

2. LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers

3. Kevin Durant, Golden State Warriors

4. Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder

5. Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers

6. Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs

7. Kristaps Porzingis, New York Knicks

8. Jimmy Butler, Chicago Bulls

9. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

10. James Harden, Houston Rockets

11. Dwyane Wade, Chicago Bulls

12. Derrick Rose, New York Knicks

13. Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors

14. Isaiah Thomas, Boston Celtics

15. Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers

No Raptors made the list, which is a bummer. It’s a bummer made all the more inexplicable as we try to collectively understand who is buying all that Derrick Rose merch.

Such mystery.
