K.J. McDaniels waived by Raptors, roster at 16

The Raptors let go of McDaniels, who was on a partially-guaranteed contract.

Ahead of their west coast trip, the Raptors announced Sunday they have waived small forward K.J. McDaniels. McDaniels had yet to play for the Raptors in the regular season, and was on a partially-guaranteed contract from training camp.

The team had until October 28 to waive McDaniels without any financial obligation. This move also reads as a backing of Alfonzo McKinnie, who figures to play a similar position and role to McDaniels.

McDaniels, who spent time in Brooklyn and Houston last season, averaged 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game. He and McKinnie were brought on to shore up a seemingly shallow small forward rotation, but with the surprise return of OG Anunoby, both would appear to be “break in case of emergency” players anyway.

The Raptors now have an open roster spot available. Lorenzo Brown and Malcolm Miller continue to be the designated G League players with two-way contracts.
