Raptors 905 trade Jarrod Uthoff for Christian Watford and a pick

It’s perhaps not the trade we were expecting, but things are happening in the organization.

The Raptors 905 announced yesterday that they have traded forward Jarrod Uthoff to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants for forward Christian Watford and a 2017 3rd round draft pick.

At first, this deal may look surprising as Uthoff was in training camp with the Toronto Raptors and missed out on the 15th roster spot before heading to the 905. However Uthoff has had several DNP-CDs this year, and an inconsistent role with the team. He is currently averaging 7.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 20.3 minutes per game. A change of scenery might be good for Uthoff right now.

As for Watford he is 25 and a 6’9” power forward in his second season in the D-League and was a rotation player with the Mad Ants. Watford is currently averaging 5.9 points, 2.4 rebounds an 0.9 assists in 16.2 minutes per game, as well as shooting 35.8 percent from three. Watford isn’t as good as a shooter as Uthoff but can still be a nice rotational piece for the 905.

The 905 also acquired a 3rd round pick which they can use at the trade deadline to acquire more players similar to what they did last season with E.J. Singler and Davion Berry. Keep in mind the 905 will most likely be needing to add another player near the trade deadline as Toupane is expected to be back up in the NBA.
