Despite being in the D-League for just one season, the Raptors 905 have made quite the impression. The Raptors' four developmental players have all spent time there, and some of its members (such as Axel Toupane) have made it into the NBA. Now we can add another plaudit: Mississauga will host the annual D-League showcase in January of 2017 at the Hershey Centre.
As reported by Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com, it's all locked in but for the official official announcement:
What this means for the Greater Toronto Area is noteworthy. This will be the first time the Showcase, heading into its 13th year, will be held outside of the United States. The Raptors 905 will go from being the newest member of the Showcase to hosting the whole dang thing. And it'll give Mississauga and Toronto a chance to play host to a whole range of players, scouts, agents and other NBA officials.
It's just a shame it'll all have to take place in January. Couldn't the league figure out a way to run this event in a more temperate month? I joke.
Look for the official announcement with more concrete details in the coming weeks.
