Raptors to welcome Argentine champions San Lorenzo de Almagro for preseason game in Toronto

We're still a ways away from it, but circle October 14th on your calendar.

Since back in 2003, the Raptors have made a point of facing off against international competition in the preseason. The 2016-17 season will be no different. For the upcoming season, the Raptors will play host to the reigning Argentinian champions San Lorenzo de Almagro. This will be the first time an Argentinian club will face off against an NBA teamn.

The game will be on October 14th, 2016 and be broadcast internationally on NBA League Pass.

Here's what general manager Masai Ujiri had to say about the game, as per the press release:

"The Toronto Raptors have a proud history of playing host to international clubs and our organization and fans look forward to welcoming San Lorenzo de Almagro to our city," said Raptors President and General Manager Masai Ujiri. "We are honoured to join with the NBA to promote our global game."

If you're trying to frame the Argentine team in an NBA contest, be advised they do have one former NBA player: Walter Hermann (of the Bobcats and Pistons back in 2006-09) was named the Finals MVP.

As for the Raptors, this will be the ninth time Toronto has welcomed an international team into the ACC. The other games over the years were: 2003, Panathinaikos (Greece); 2004, Benetton (Italy); 2005, Maccabi Tel-Avia (Israel); 2006, Maccabi Tel-Avia (Israel); 2007, Zalgiris Kaunas (Lithuania); 2008, CSKA Moscow (Russia); 2012, Real Madrid (Spain) and 2014, Maccabi Haifa (Israel). Here is also when we remember that the team lost to Maccabi Tel-Avia one year, in a franchise low point.

It's too bad Luis Scola, as an Argentinian, may no longer be on the Raptors by then. But still, a cool moment in franchise and international basketball history.
