Norman Powell named NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month

It was a short month, but still, not bad for the 46th pick in the draft.

This just in: Norman Powell is good at basketball. Despite being in his rookie season, and playing behind more established players, Powell finds himself on the precipice of a solid career in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors. It was announced today that he was named the Eastern Conference's Rookie of the Month for April. He joins the august company of Vince Carter, Jonas Valanciunas, and Jamario Moon (along with others).

For the final 13 days of the regular season, Powell averaged 15.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 31.6 minutes of action in eight games; all of which he started, by the way. In addition to that, Powell also averaged 7.2 I-can't-believe-the-Raptors-drafted-him-in-the-second-rounds and 2.4 Who-needs-Terrence-Ross-anyways. It's been quite a run.

While the Raptors are being typically secretive about who will be in the starting lineup tomorrow for Game 1 of their series with the Pacers, the money favourite is Powell (with Ross and Carroll coming off the bench in the 3/stretch-4 spot). Not bad for a 23 year old rookie who the Raptors got for Greivis Vasquez, am I right?

Keep on keeping on, Norm.
