Okay, we really have a semi-real update on the DeMarcus Cousins-to-Toronto pipe dream this time around. Per The Sporting News, a Western Conference general manager believes, barring a change in the team’s performance over the next few weeks, the Kings will start actively pursuing potential trade scenarios for DeMarcus Cousins.
So! As we mentioned last time, there are plenty of trade scenarios that would work between the Kings and Raptors, most of them involving Jonas Valanciunas and a combination of some of our younger players (Bebe looked great in a Huskies uniform on Saturday, throw him in!).
The problem is not about finding a deal that would work given the financial parameters of the salary cap, it’s that if Cousins really is about to hit the market soon, there are plenty of other teams that can put together much more attractive packages, namely Boston and even the Lakers if they choose to break-up their Showtime Reborn crew.
But just imagine Masai Ujiri, on his recently updated Blackberry, trading texts with Vlade Divac. And at the same time, Drake on the phone with Vivek Ranadive to soften the blow of trading Cousins to Toronto. Just get these people in a room, and let Ujiri handle the rest.
It’s still probably not going to happen, but I feel like the possibility of it just went from zero to non-zero given the latest news.
