While the entire city of Toronto was watching the Blue Jays on televisions across the GTA, the ACC played host to its first game of the season with the Raptors “B” team (surely the starters and rotation guys hung around in Cleveland for Game 1) taking on San Lorenzo de Almagro from Buenos Aires.
After taking my seat in section 305 and realizing none of the regulars would be touching the floor, I made a bold prediction:
Fred Van Vleet dropping 40 tonight pic.twitter.com/ce8bCC8Qxa

The luck of that prediction bodes well for my pro-line ticket tomorrow, as Fred VanVleet nearly reached 40, dropping 31 points on 12-of-19 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. He also added five assists and five rebounds, as well as a steal to stuff the stat sheet in a game that should bode well in his chances to earn that 15th roster spot come the end of preseason.
Norman Powell looked the part of a legit NBA rotation player, easily slicing to the rim for a few highlight dunks on his night. He finished with 17 points on 6-of-8 from the floor in 24 minutes of work.
The rookie bigs Pascal Siakam and Jakob Poeltl used their size advantage against the San Lorenzo front line, combining for 28 points on 14-of-19 from the field as well as 10 rebounds.
Drew Crawford also saw a lot of burn totalling 34 minutes and scoring 17 points on 6-10 from the floor.
The Raps next preseason tilt goes down next Wednesday against the Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
