The Toronto Raptors aren't doing signing players yet! After signing DeMarre Carroll on Canada Day, the team has inked one of the more active rebounders and defenders in the free agency market for a relatively cheap price.
The great Woj dropped the bomb this Saturday afternoon:
Free agent center Bismack Biyombo has agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal with the Toronto Raptors, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 4, 2015
At only 22-years old, Biyombo last played for the Charlotte Hornets from 2011-2015. An efficient defender, Biyombo and Carroll will greatly reshape the Raptors defense, a defense that was exposed by season's end.
Bismack became an unrestricted free agent on June 30th when the Hornets didn't want to extend him a qualifying offer after the season. During the 2014-15 season, Biyombo averaged 4.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in the 64 games with the Hornets. Standing at 6'9', with a fearsome wingspan (and unfortunate stone hands), Biyombo was the seventh overall draft pick in 2011.
On the defensive end, he held opponents to shooting 44.3% overall from the field, held them to 48% shooting and only allowed them to make 3.2% of their shots form the floor
His biggest game of the season came on January 10th against the New York Knicks when he scored 14 points, shooting 71.4% from the field and had 12 rebounds. He'll come in to attempt to fill the void at PF last held by Amir Johnson.
Possessing good length, height, experience and a great fashion sense, Biyombo is sure to assist a front court in need of tremendous help.
I'm excited about this signing. What do you guys think?
