Raptors Sign Ronald Roberts to Partially-Guaranteed, Multi-Year Contract

Roberts, a Las Vegas Summer League high flyer joins a growing list of training camp invitees and future 905'ers.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

After two weeks of conflicting reports, the Toronto Raptors made the signing of Ronald Roberts official today. The deal is for multiple years, and according to TSN's Josh Lewenberg, it is partially-guaranteed. The financial terms of the deal have not yet been announced.

Roberts gave strong contributions as a member of the Raptors Las Vegas Summer League team, averaging 10.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 23.5 minutes in four games. As with the Michale Kyser signing yesterday, this partially-guaranteed contract is there to give incentive for Roberts to attend Toronto's training camp and could be his first step to becoming a 905'er.

As a 6'8" power forward, he is undersized, but makes up for it with incredible leaping ability. He's a YouTube sensation, as shown by this dunk compilation that's already making the rounds:

Roberts was undrafted in 2014 out of Saint Joseph's University, getting picked up in the fall by the Philadelphia 76ers in a similar deal to Toronto's. He bounced around Philly's D-League system until January, when he was waived and picked up for a four-game stint in the Philippines Basketball League. You can see some of Roberts' in-game successes in this highlight package:

So, another dude to fight it out for the 15th roster spot. Personally, I was impressed with Roberts motor during Summer League, even though he didn't quite work his game into what the team was doing around him.

What do you think of the signing?
