In a press release earlier today, the Raptors announced they have released Shannon Scott, Axel Toupane, Michale Kyser and Ronald Roberts from the team. Note, all four players can sign with the Raptors 905 team as league rules allow D-League teams to place up to four players who've been in training camp with the NBA team as affiliate players. This all assumes none of the four players receives an offer from another NBA team.
This leaves them with 15 players. If we are to assume the starting lineup will be Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, DeMarre Carroll, Patrick Patterson and Jonas Valanciunas, the bench (and Raptors 905) depth is as follows: Cory Joseph, Luis Scola, Terrence Ross, Bismack Biyombo, James Johnson, Delon Wright, Norman Powell, Bruno Caboclo, Anthony Bennett and Lucas Nogueira.
The Raptors will likely have a eight to nine man rotation to start off the season (James Johnson, fan favorite, might once again be squeezed out when it comes to minutes). Maybe more interesting is the backend of the roster, and whether players like Wright, Bennett and Powell eventually crack the rotation and get some meaningful minutes.
