Drake Night 2! Raptors Look for Revenge Against Brooklyn

New, comments

The Raptors look to celebrate the life and times of Aubrey Graham by exacting revenge on the Brooklyn Nets.

I have an irrational amount of excitement for Drake Night. That the Global Ambassador gets a night at the ACC, during a basketball game in his honour will never not be hilarious to me. Expect an event full of OVO owl holograms, Nothing Was The Same hits, and over-the-top reactions to the game from Drake himself.

On the basketball side of things, after last season's playoff matchup, the Brooklyn Nets and the Toronto Raptors have gone in opposite directions this season. The last time I wrote a game preview, the Raptor defence was in shambles, and Dwane Casey had inserted Landry Fields into the starting lineup, in what ended up being a stroke of genius to fix a struggling defence. The Raptors have won 3 straight games with Fields in the starting 5 (after losing to Cleveland), and have allowed less than a 100 points in each of those games.

Brooklyn, on the other hand, has had a rough go of things. After losing Paul Pierce in free agency, and adding one more year in the age category for Kevin Garnett, the Nets appear to be in sell-mode and are no longer willing to pay insane amounts in luxury tax. Sitting at the 8th spot in the East, and with the majority of their draft picks over the next few years going to Boston, Brooklyn faces a daunting task in staying afloat enough to prevent too much value going the Celtics' way.

Of note: This is a nationally televised game in the USA (ESPN). Sergey Karasev has the grave misfortune of missing the coronation of the existence of Aubrey Graham due to injury. Eric Koreen gave us this gem:

Words can't describe how Andrei Kirilenko must be feeling after being traded only a week in advance of enjoying Drake night. That's not cool, Billy King.

Do it for Andrei, Toronto. Thoughts?
