Mighty Mouse. Junkyard Dog. Vinsanity. The Toronto Raptors have had some well-thought out and famously nicknamed players in their history. But with the team rolling into its 20th season, there seems to be a dearth of definition as to the current nickname situation.
Over on Reddit, the suggestions have been flying around as to the definitive nickname role call for the Raptors. It feels like it is time for us to work together as a community to nail some down here (and develop some new ones).
Are we good with simple combo names like K-Low and T-Ross? For real, is the "Doctor of Denial" the one for Amir Johnson? Does JV-Nasty have any legs?
I will obviously not negotiate on Chuck Wagon.
Before we get to specific players, we really do need to address the lack of a bench nickname for the Raptors. With Patrick Patterson, Lou Williams, Greivis Vasquez, James Johnson and Tyler Hansbrough (to say nothing of the Brazilians), Toronto has one of the more interesting and dynamic benches in the league. They need a name.
Let's start there. Aaaaand, go!
