The Senior Women Are Going to London

New, comments

Happy Canada Day people! With one great performance Canada's Senior Women's National Team is now heading to London after defeating Japan for the final spot today 71-63. This will mark the first Olympic bid for the women's side since the Atlanta games of 2000.

And this is a big step!

After a couple of tough losses in this tournament, the SWNT had taken the longest road possible and come out on top. Led by the team MVP Courtnay Pilypaitis who posted a game high 21 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, a block and a steal in 34 minutes or action, the ladies stepped into what will surely be a memorable Olympic run.

The SWNT will be placed in the a pretty tough Group B with the likes of international women's basketball powerhouses Australia, France and Russia (along with Brazil and Great Britain) and they will have a pretty tough set of games to come.

In the meantime, let's enjoy this first step conquered on Canada Day.
