With the Minnesota Pre-Draft Workout session having an exodus of players before Thursday, this once key event was looking like it may not be as exciting as it could have been. Lucky for us, our interest as Can Ball fans is that Robert Sacre was invited to the Friday session possibly last minute but who cares. The point is that he was invited.
This is an interesting invite for two reasons in my mind. With Kevin Love manning the middle for at least another three, if not more seasons, and both Darko Milicic and Nikola Pekovic with contracts until next season, this could be a nice place for him to start off. If Sacre were to land here on Draft day then he'd have a year to play in the D-League to get used to the pro game and rehab any nagging injuries while also building his O game. And having a back up plan at the five in Sacre isn't all that bad when you have Love playing almost 40 minutes a game.
The second reason is that the Timberwolves have a late second round pick, number 58 to be exact. I think Sacre is a fringe player who will likely go undrafted but with a solid set of young players, that tail end pick could be one to throw out on a guy like Sacre. It would make sense just to draft him to keep his rights if not sign him this season since he's not guaranteed a contract.
Very interesting scenarios are popping up in my head with this one and since Sacre's a player who could play his way into a GM's heart in a workout with his game and personality this T-Wolves connection could be something to keep an eye on.
