Leslie Returns to NC State, Ford Thinks Raptors Should Draft Kidd-Gilchrist

Leslie's length, athleticism and versatility would have been an interesting option for the Raptors had he still been available in the second round of the NBA Draft.
Leslie's length, athleticism and versatility would have been an interesting option for the Raptors had he still been available in the second round of the NBA Draft.

As draft junkies here at the HQ, we've been reporting on even the most minor developments leading up to the big day, from Kentucky's Fab Five underclassmen declaring last night, to Mason Plumlee and other returning to school.

The latest update that has some Raptors' repercussions, is that NC State forward CJ Leslie has decided to return to school as well. Was Leslie a top five pick? Hardly. But he was one of those players I was secretly hoping would fall into the top of the second round for Toronto to snatch up with the first of their two second-round picks. Leslie is thin, but as an explosive athlete with a very dynamic game, could have been very intriguing for Toronto. No guarantee the Raps were going to be able to get their hands on him, but Leslie represents another talented player who is now off the board for the Dinos this spring.

Keeping on the topic of the upcoming draft, ESPN.com draft guru Chad Ford was asked in an online ESPN chat today, who the Raptors should take if they can't get a hold of Anthony Davis. Here was Ford's response:

Kidd-Gilchrist. Raptors need toughness in the worst way. He would immediately transform the culture there. That's why I think I'd lean toward MKG in Washington as well. Will be a tough call between him and Beal. Beal is a better offensive player. Just think teams that are mired in a losing culture will want a kid like MKG that only cares about winning.

Commence head nodding.
