7:00pm Marquette @ Georgetown - Now this is a classic Big East Conference matchup: two storied Top 25 teams looking to get a conference win. (Big Daddy Gavitt is smiling somewhere up there.) What this means is that what's looks like a limping Marquette team will have their hands full with the (my) Georgetown Hoyas. Junior Cadougan has been having an inconsistent last five games and it seems to also coincide with the Golden Eagles' up-and-down period also. Let's hope they all get it together or they will get bitten by the Hoyas.
7:00pm North Carolina-Wilmington @ Northeastern
7:00pm Delaware State @ North Carolina State
7:00pm George Washington @ St. Bonaventure - I'm never one to rag on a player because he's not living up to ridiculous expectations but I have to admit that Andrew Nicholson seems to not be the same player from a year ago. He's still playing some good ball but (and I hate to say it) not what you'd expect from a guy who was shortlisted for some player of the year awards. His last two games for St. Bonaventure have him averaging 8 points, 3 rebounds and 4.5 fouls in 12 minutes. Those are great for a bench guy but not for a potential NBA player. The bright side is that both Matthew Wright and Chris Johnson are playing well of late with Johnson even getting starts. Over the last two games, the pair has averaged 25 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 4.5 steals. Let's see how all three play tonight to open their conference season at home.
7:00pm Towson @ Drexel
7:30pm Coppin State @ Howard
7:30pm Richmond @ Charlotte
8:00pm Eastern Kentucky @ Murray State
8:00pm Southern Illinois @ Bradley
8:00pm Mayville State @ North Dakota
8:00pm Texas Tech @ Oklahoma State - Texas Tech's Ty Nurse seems to be getting back on track after an injury not long ago. He's been steady at 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals over his last two games after missing a game on Dec. 22.
8:00pm UTEP @ Marshall
8:00pm Saint Louis @ Dayton
8:00pm Rice @ TCU
9:00pm Texas @ Iowa State - This will be an interesting game to watch indeed. Both teams have Canadians that have been fighting the inconsistency bug all season and they are both coming off very good games. Myck Kabongo is coming off a near double-double against Rice on New Year's Eve going for 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in 36 minutes in the 73-59 Longhorns' victory. Melvin Ejim had a double-double on New Year's Eve going for 15 points and 15 rebounds in 31 minutes in the 67-65 Iowa State win over Mississippi Valley State. Both teams are 10-3 and it will be a matter of who wants it bad enough here tonight.
9:00pm Iowa @ Minnesota
9:00pm Syracuse @ Providence - Syracuse is still number and still undefeated which is great news for the Orange faithful but the target gets bigger with every passing day. That's the bad news. The good news is that after a 0 point performance in the Orange's 75-49 beating of Seton Hall last week, Kris Joseph opened 2012 with a 22 point, 7 rebound, and 2 assist effort in the sound drubbing of DePaul. Providence is not one of the better teams in the ultra competitive Big East but they should put up a fight against Syracuse.
And here is where the ladies are playing tonight ...
7:00pm Notre Dame @ Seton Hall - Natalie Achonwa is averaging 11.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 blocks in a very efficient 16.6 minutes per game for Notre Dame over the late five. Can she keep this up to start 2012?
7:00pm Michigan @ Michigan State
7:00pm Buffalo @ Ohio - Brittney Hedderson continues to be the lone bright spot for Buffalo who will begin their conference sleight tonight. She was held to 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting in the Bulls' 65-45 loss to Iowa State to close 2011 so you can bet that she's looking to bust out in this game.
7:00pm Brown @ Rhode Island
7:00pm Boston University @ Vermont - The Vermont trio of Lauren Buschmann, Kristine Lalonde and Lauren Wheeler have all been keys to the Catamounts his season, particularly Buschmann. She's been the rock in the middle all season averaging 14.4 points and 8.1 rebounds. Look for all three to factor big in tonight's contest.
7:00pm Siena @ Iona
7:00pm Miami (OH) @ Akron
7:00pm Manhattan @ Loyola (MD)
7:00pm Canisius @ Marist - Five Canadians are still on this Canisius roster. Why not watch this game?
7:00pm Niagara @ Rider
7:00pm Fairfield @ St. Peter's
8:00pm Dakota State University @ North Dakota State
8:00pm Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech
8:05pm Denver @ Arkansas State
9:00pm Kansas @ Texas
