Today we have two incredible to end the first exciting weekend of the NCAA Tournament that feature a pair of young Longhorns and a match up of Golden Eagles looking to escape the Orange crush ...
6:10pm Arizona vs. Texas
Both teams come into this game with identical records and it will really be anyone’s game. In their first round game against Oakland, the Longhorns were lucky to escape an upset in the 85-81 win but a victory is a victory. Tristan Thompson showed why he was chosen Big 12 Rookie of the Year posting 17 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks in 38 minutes of action for his fifth double-double in six games. Cory Joseph was also a factor in the game scoring 11 points as well as getting 2 rebounds and 3 assists in his 35 minutes. Like Texas, Arizona was lucky to escape bowing out the first round and you can bet they are looking to come out to a quick start. Star sophomore Derrick Williams will likely be defended by Thompson so key into this match up. If Texas, and by Texas I mean Thompson, can slow down Williams, then they should come out of this game on top.
7:45pm Marquette vs. Syracuse
This match up looks more like a Big East Conference game than an NCAA Tournament one. If you’re going strictly by the lines, this may be a Syracuse win but if you’re looking history this season then Marquette would have the advantage. Marquette had beaten at home 76-70 this season and you can bet that this will be fuel for the Orange to come out strong. In that loss, Kris Joseph had 18 pts, 4 assists, 4 steals and a rebound missing only one minute of action. Fast forwarding to the present, Joseph had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds in 17-60 win over Indiana State in the first round. Look for him to come out and drop a gem of game. In Marquette’s win over Xavier on their first day of the NCAA Tournament, Junior Cadougan had 5 points and 1 assist in 22 minutes.
