Marquee Match Up

2:00pm UMBC @ Maine

Last season as a freshman, Murphy Burnatowski looked like he was a star on the rise for Maine. By midseason he was in the starting lineup and looked like he was poised for a breakout sophomore campaign.  But that didn’t really happen, at least not yet.  Burnatowski did start the season off very well averaging 10.7 points, 3 rebounds, 1.6 steals in 25.9 minutes through the first seven games but since then his season has been marred by inconsistent play that led to inconsistent minutes which had led to … you get it.  In the following 15 games, he’s only hit for double-figure points three times and he saw his playing time diminish along with his production.  Burnatowski is a very talented player and can make things happen in a heartbeat so this game will be a good one to watch since UMBC is a bottom dweller in the America East Conference and he could see some extended time if it’s a blowout.  The other Canadian on the team, Mike Allison, has been a steady bench producer in the middle averaging 4.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 13.9 minutes over the last eight games.

Here is where everyone else is playing today …

2:00pm Ohio State @ Minnesota

2:00pm St. Peter’s @ Canisius

3:00pm Marist @ Niagara – Eric Williams has been great on the block of late for Niagara since he was inserted into the starting lineup five games ago.  In that span, he’s averaging 6.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks and just over a steal in 29.2 minutes.  Williams has produced with increased playing time and checking out this game wouldn’t be bad.
