The NC-Double-Eh Player of the Week - Week 7

Sorry we're late with this folks but the getting out of holiday mode was tough. Regardless, we honor our first double award winner of the season meaning a player that we have given both Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. And after a great three game stretch last week that player is Maine's Justin Edwards ...

Player of the Week

Justin Edwards - Freshman, Maine

Freshman Justin Edwards has been nothing short of great so far this season for Maine and last week was no exception. In the Black Bears three games, he averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 34.7 minutes of action helping the team to a perfect 3-0 record. He shot 19-of-37 from the field including 4-of-6 from the three line in the wins and earned himself his fourth America East Rookie of the Week award. With his great three game performance, we have dubbed a double award winner this week as he earns both NC-Double-Eh Player of the Week and his fourth Rookie of the Week honors.

In Maine's 77-60 win over visiting Utah Valley Dec. 19, Edwards went for 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and a block in 36 minutes. He shot 7-of-15 from the floor including 2-of-4 from behind the arc and made one of his two free throws.

Two days later, Edwards had another solid game against visiting Eastern Illinois helping Maine to a 64-60 victory. In the win, he posted a near double-double going for 14 points and 9 rebounds while also dropping 4 dimes. He shot 6-of10 from the field and made his only three point attempt in 33 minutes of action.

In the team's last game before the Christmas break on Dec. 23, Edwards was at it again posting another near double-double this time at Brown. In the 71-58 triumph he went for 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in 35 minutes. He shot 6-of-12 from the floor, including a trey, and he made 4 of his 5 free throws.

For the season, Edwards is averaging 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.2 steals and 0.9 blocks in 31.4 minutes of court time. He's shooting .523 from the floor, .476 from the three point line and .714 from the foul line. He is currently ranked second on the team in points, rebounds and minutes per game and leads the team in steals and 3PT field goal percentage. He currently ranks in the top ten in the America East Conference in scoring (4th), rebounding (7th), FG% (5th), assists (10th), FT% (10th), steals (1st), 3PT FG% (tied for 2nd), blocks (6th), offensive rebounds (tied for 6th with 2.5) and defensive rebounds (7th with 4).

Honorable Mention: Kevin Pangos, Gonzaga - 21 ppg, 4 rpg, 2 apg, 2 spg, 14-of-25 FGs, 9-of-19 3PT FGs, 5-of-5 FTs in 36.5 mpg in two games Dec. 20 and 22.
