5:00pm New Mexico State @ UTEP
For the last two seasons, we have always said that Hernst Laroche was a guy that was playing under the cover of anonymity at New Mexico State to any Canadian basketball fan for a guy of his importance to his team. Well, you can add Christian Kabongo to that list also. Kabongo has come on huge in the early part of the season for the Aggies having scored in double digits all but one game thus far and eclipsing 20 points three times, twice in the last three games. The most impressive thing about his scoring numbers is the way he’s gotten there – the free throw line. He’s 60-of-71 from the stripe and is averaging 7.5 MAKES per game. Kabongo’s a slasher type and he’s been getting into the lanes to draw his points which are much needed for the Aggies. This game should be a great one for him since UTEP plays a wide open running game and he could top 20 again this year. On top of that, the other Canadians are playing pretty well too making this a worthwhile game to watch.
And here is where the rest of the men are playing today …
2:00pm Lynchburg @ Elon
2:30pm Iona @ Marshall
3:00pm North Carolina Central @ North Carolina State – NC State’s Alex Johnson has taken a supporting role on a very talented team and he’s been filling that role well. He’s not had the outburst that he had last season but his presence had definitely helped this Wolfpack team. He’s had a few days off, 7 to be exact ,so this could be a big game for him.
4:00pm Santa Clara @ Washington State
5:00pm Jackson State @ California
6:00pm Idaho @ Seattle
6:00pm Detroit @ Alabama – Against an Alabama team that will likely focus on Chase Simons and Ray McCallum, this could be a game that Jason Calliste can play big for Detroit.
8:00pm Coppin State @ Illinois
And here is where the ladies are playing today …
1:00pm Maine @ Massachusetts
1:00pm Lafayette @ Bryant – Bryant’s Naana Ankoma-Mensa had a double-double last game going for 10 points and 17 rebounds. Yup, 17 off the glass. In her game against Quinnipiac before that one she had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Is there another one up her sleeve today?
2:00pm Delaware @ Wake Forest
2:00pm Navy @ Howard
2:00pm Morehead State @ Duquesne – Duquesne’s Wumi Agunbiade has been on a scoring tear since her 5 point game to start the season. She’s scored in double figures in the last seven games that have included a career high 32 points. Can she maintain that momentum into this game?
2:00pm Michigan @ Eastern Michigan
2:00 American @ Troy
3:00pm Alcorn State @ Minnesota
3:00pm Nicholls State @ Texas Southern
3:30pm Portland @ Seattle U
4:00pm New Mexico State @ Boise State – Boise State’s Diana Lee had a career high 21 points in the Broncos’ game Thursday night. She’s among the Mountain West Conference’s leaders in three point shooting making this follow up game a potentially big shooting one.
5:00pm Pacific @ San Diego
6:30pm UC Riverside @ Washington State
