With the NC-Double-Eh season now in full swing and me running around trying to keep track of everything going on, I have finally got the first NC-Double-Eh Player of the Week ready to roll. It was a little late, a few days to be exact, but it's finally here and we've had some very big games in the first weekend. So without any further adieu, we give you our first installment of the season ...
Player of the Week
Jahenns Manigat – Sophomore, Creighton
For our first Player of the Week we will honor Ottawa’s Jahenns Manigat. The sophomore guard had a pretty good opening weekend for the Blue Jays helping them to an undefeated record of 2-0. For the weekend Manigat averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and a steal in 20 minutes a game. He shot 11-of-18 from the field including an impressive 10-of-17 from behind the arc.
In the Blue Jays 97-65 win over North Carolina A&T Nov. 11, Manigat had 18 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in 21 minutes. He shot 6-of-8 from the field while also going 5-of-7 from behind the three.
In his second game of the opening weekend against Chicago State, he had 15 points, 4 boards and 2 assists in 19 minutes in the Blue Jays’ 95-61 blowout win. He shot 5-of-10 from the floor, all behind the arc in the victory.
Honorable Mention: Rob Sacre, Gonzaga – 22 pts, 10 rebs, 4-of-9 FGs, 14-of-18 FTs, 33 mins in the 77-69 win vs. Eastern Washington Nov. 11.
Rookie of the Week
Ty Nurse - Junior, Texas Tech
For the first Rookie of the Week honor, we look to Lubbock, Texas and Texas Tech. In his first Division 1 game for the Red Raiders, Vancouver’s Ty Nurse had an incredible opening game against Troy helping seal the 90-85 win.
In the victory, Nurse played all but one minute and poured in 29 points on 9-of-13 from the floor. He dropped 6-of-9 three point attempts while also sinking all five of his free throws. He also added three rebounds, two steals and an assist in the game.
Honorable Mention: Kyle Wiltjer, Kentucky – 14 pts, 4 rebs, 2 blks, 1 ast in 19 mins in 108-58 win vs. Maris.
Line of the Week
See Rob Sacre and Ty Nurse above. I was looking for anyone else with comparable lines from the opening weekend but those two were it. If you can find someone with a better line, let me know.
