Gender equality is closely scrutinized during the Division One certification process. In addition to gender equality, officials from the NCAA will assess Seattle U's ability to consider students' athletic interests and the schools commitment to improving inequality.

"We're creating a committee to look at the overall issue of gender equality in our athletics. We're going to wait and see what the committee finds before we move further," Hogan said.

— From Athletics looks to add women’s sport - The Spectator - Sports. With a 60-40 female-male ratio in the student body, Seattle U is looking to add women's sports to make sure they comply with Title IX, which is part of their Division I certification process.

After North Dakota joined the Big Sky Conference most assumed their border rival South Dakota would follow, however the Coyotes have declined the Big Sky's invitation. Like SDST and NDST, South Dakota will join the Missouri Valley Football Conference and elect to stay in the Summit League in all other sports. This move leaves the Big Sky with 11 all-sport members and 13 football members. The Summit League will remain stable with its 9 members, while the MVC will now be at 10. North Dakota may have a case of buyer's remorse after signing on with the Big Sky, and could be looking into joining the other 3 Dakotas in Summit league/MVC to reduce their travel costs and maintain its rivalries. The WAC's expansion plan seems to have settled on just adding UTSA, Texas St, and (non football school) Denver in order to hold open another spot in case Montana decides to upgrade. The only school left out of of this expansion shuffle for now is Seattle University, a non-football school, who may be targeted to join the WCC with the new addition of BYU or they could be invited to join Big Sky Conference as a 12th member in an attempt to even out the basketball schedule.

I think [the Seattle Storm] have an excellent fan base and we're going to do everything we possibly can to work with the Storm and get their fans to buy-in and watch us play. I think their fans will enjoy watching us play.

In fact, we have a double-header at KeyArena - we're doing a tournament right after Christmas sponsored by State Farm with Notre Dame, Gonzaga, and Loyola Marymount. And we're hoping the Storm fans come out particularly in those games and we're working with the Storm to get some things going on there.

— Seattle University coach Joan Bonvicini on leveraging the excitement of the Seattle Storm's championship run to build their fan base during an interview with Dave Grosby of 710 ESPN Seattle. In the past, the University of Washington has held season ticket holder events at Storm games. It will be interesting to see how effective building a relationship the other way - encouraging Storm fans to attend a college tournament featuring two Top 25 programs - will help Seattle University.
