Raptors Exercise Third-Year Option On DeMar DeRozan

The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they have exercised the third-year team option on the Rookie Scale Contract of guard-forward DeMar DeRozan. DeRozan is now guaranteed through the 2011-12 season. DeRozan, 6-foot-7, 220 pounds, was the ninth overall pick by Toronto in the 2009 NBA Draft out of the University of Southern California. He averaged 8.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 77 appearances in the 2009-10 season.

Dampier deciding between Bucks and Raptors?

From the "Bucks Beat" at the Journal Times, it sounds like Toronto is still very much alive in the Erick Dampier hunt. Dampier was originally believed to be favouring Miami as his next stop in the NBA, however the Journal Times is reporting that this has recently changed, and that Dampier is possibly deciding between Milwaukee and Toronto. The article goes on to note that the word is that Dampier will be visiting both cities later this week. We'll keep an ear to the ground on this but obviously signing Dampier would be a huge upgrade for the team at the 5.

Former Raptor Patrick O'Bryant signs with Chinese Team

In former Raptors news, looks like Patrick O'Bryant's NBA days are over. A big shout to one of our readers, Chinese blogger Jonathan Pastuszek, for giving us the heads up that P.O.B. has signed on with Fujian SBS, of the Chinese Basketball Association. No big surprise here, O'Bryant couldn't even dominate in Summer League and had Raptors' coaches lamenting his desire to play like Rasheed instead of Ben Wallace. As Jonathan notes, perhaps in this league P.O.B. will find some success and carve out a niche for himself. While he wasn't the best player I've ever spoken to, Patrick was one of the best guys in the Raptors' locker room and a pretty funny interview. All of us here at the HQ wish him the best. Favourite part of the story though? How about Rodney White possibly joining O'Bryant??

The Senior Women Fall a Little Short to Greece

So another night wasted on trying to get more stories from the Senior Women in the Czech Republic. There were a couple more for this game than yesterday but still not as many as I think there should be. Anyway, here is the link to the FIBA game recap which includes the boxscore and summary. The Senior Women fought valiantly but their comback came up a little short in the end. The team falls to 1-5 and are likely out of the medals, actually they may have been out as of yesterday, but they will be playing one more game tomorrow against France before the classification games. They can still win the game but it may take a Herculean effort and a little luck too.
