Some high-level prospects were dropping and it seemed like the Raptors would have their choice of quality players at the 27th pick. Instead, as he's done now multiple years in a row, GM Masai Ujiri drafted way outside the box. This time it was the selection of forward Pascal Siakam from New Mexico State. Draft Express had him going 43rd in their mock draft.
What this means for the Raptors remains a question mark. Theoretically Siakam could come in and find minutes as the new Bismack Biyombo off the bench for Toronto. Or he could go straight down to the Raptors 905 for heavier playing time and some more experience. On the positive side, it sounds like Siakam's got the kind of motor that will endear him to fans. Hopefully the skills work out. That's pretty much all we know.
