How Good Can The Raptors Be?

Things are looking pretty good in Raptor Land, for the first time in six seasons the Raptors are finally going to make the playoffs and have a good shot at winning the Atlantic Division for the second time in franchise history. This season the Raptors are almost definitely not going to win the championship, they might, but it's not at all likely, but what about two years from now? Four years? Five? Of the last 20 NBA champions 18 have included players that had won the MVP at one point in there career with Dwayne Wade's 2006 Miami Heat team and the 2004 Detroit Pistons being the only teams to buck the trend. Judging from these results, it's probably safe to say that unless your the Detroit Pistons you have to have an elite MVP contending player and sometimes two to win the championship.

The Raptors are a good team with good players and most Raptors fans are happy with that because like or not they are low expectations, six years with out playoffs will do that to you. Good teams get you in the playoffs and perhaps into the second round, great teams get rings, can the Raptors be a great team? The majority of the Raptor's fanbase are very happy with this seasons success, but let me ask you this, what would have given the Raptors a better chance to win the championship and what would you rather have happen, that the season play out like it has or the roster have been dismantled earlier in the season and have them battle with the Lakers, 76ers and Bucks for the top draft spots and potential franchise changing players? In the end all that matters in championships and its hard to say whether of not the Raptors have the core win them.
