Raptors Complete Coaching Staff with Bayno, Mermuys, Mahlalela, Head Back to Halifax For Training Camp

US PRESSWIRE

After lots of discussion over the past few weeks, the Toronto Raptors finally made it official announcing the remaining members of the club's coaching staff for the next season.

The Toronto Raptors might not have a new-look next year in terms of jerseys or roster.

But the coaching staff for the most part will be comprised of completely new faces.

Bill Bayno, Jesse Mermuys, and Jama Mahlalela have been added to head coach Dwane Casey's personnel, joining the "previously made official" Nick Nurse, and incumbents Tom Sterner and shooting specialist John Townsend.

From the sounds of it, all of the newcomers will have mostly singular focusses.

Bayno will be Casey's defensive ace, with Nurse managing the offensive side of things. Mermuys and Mahlalela will be working on the player development side of things.

Bayno spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and previously was with the Portland Trailblazers organization. Nurse coached the Raptors' Summer League entry, and he led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to the D League Championship last season.

All of the new hires have plenty of experience, with Bayno boasting a resume that includes coaching under legends like Larry Brown, John Calipari, Rick Adelman and Nate MacMillan. All will be taking their talents to the East Coast, Halifax that is, once again for training camp.

Of course while all of this sounds great, but as we know, the success of these hires will be measured mostly in wins, something the Dinos certainly haven't had an abundance of over the past few seasons.
