Possible trades for Rudy Gay

Pistons get Rudy Gay

Raptors get Calderon (sign and trade), Stuckey, Jerebko and a 2014 1st round pick

The Pistons get a wing scorer they definitely need and move on by drafting a point guard at no.8. They keep their salary cap intact for this year and by the time they need money to re-sign their youngsters, Gay's contract will be off the books. Starting five: Carter-Williams, Knight, Gay, Monroe, Drummond with Singler, etc. off the bench. Playoff team? Maybe, if they built a solid experienced bench too.

The Raptors get rid of Gay's albatross contract, grab a valuable expiring deal in Stuckey, get two useful role players in Calderon and Jerebko on short-term deals and most importantly another 2014 1st round pick in order to chase Andrew Wiggins.

Nets get Rudy Gay

Raptors get Kris Humphries, Mirza Teletovic, Tyshawn Taylor and the 22nd pick in the 2013 NBA Draft

Brooklyn has a great need for a solid forward, Prokhorov is not afraid to spend money on his team, they have shown interest in Gay before ( and they have already made lopsided deals for inconsistent stars. Why not this time?

Toronto gets a valuable expiring deal in Humphries, two bench players, along with a solid draft option where they can land a player like Kelly Olynyk, Tony Snell, Steven Adams, Shane Larkin, Jamaal Franklin and others. Problem solved.

The 2013 Raptors are built to contend for the 8th seed. I hope that the new GM understands that the team is going nowhere and starts creating a real contender. And it's not like there are no pieces already in place: JV, Amir, Derozan and Ross are all solid young players. They still need a star (Wiggins or Parker), a floor general and some savvy veterans (and of course, better player development) to contend in the Eastern Conference by 2015-2016.
