RaptorsHQ Rapid Recap: Raps Survive 37 Points from Wall en Route to 96 - 88 Win

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Raptors move to 6 and 7 on the season thanks to a win tonight over the Washington Wizards.

The Toronto Raptors maintained their Atlantic Division lead thanks to a 96 to 88 win over the Washington Wizards.  John Wall had 37 points for the Wiz in the loss, and nearly carried his club to a comeback win, but in the end, TO walks away with the win, moving to 6 and 7 on the season.

This was a weird one.  By quarter, the first was a draw with neither team wanting to play defence, the second the Raps owned, and looked like they were going to run away with the win.

Then they scored only 15 third quarter points while the Wizards had 32 (Wall and Bradley Beal accounting for most of it), and suddenly Washington was in the lead and the Raptors looked a bit lost.

However in the fourth quarter, Toronto got some huge minutes from the previously MIA DJ Augustin and Toronto regained the lead, never looking back.  Rudy Gay, DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry and Jonas Valanciunas all gave the club solid minutes down the stretch and the Wiz didn't have an answer.

Key stats in this one were free-throws, where the Dinos got to the line 10 more times than the Wizards, and opponent field goal percentage as the Raps kept the Wiz under 42 per cent shooting.

All five Toronto starters scored in double figures including Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan both with a team-high 17, and Terrence Ross put in another solid outing with 11 off the pine.

The Dinos next play the Brooklyn Nets next week who as I type this...are down by 33 points to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
