"My role will probably be different than before. There are plenty of veterans out there, whose main goals are to help the team in practices, work with the young players and to still be able to show some skills on the court if needed. That's how I'd imagine my comeback," said Songaila.
He would, I think, improve the Raptors at back-up C -- he can bang, and score, and rebound -- as well as help Jonas make the transition to the NBA. He did perform well for Lietuva this summer, and, with all the caveats applicable there, still... He just has to be better than Aaron Gray, after all.
That might free up an Amir to go in a package with Calderon or (please, God) DeMar for, oh, 2014 picks or maybe a Terrence Jones. Heck, with Anderson, Acy and Fields to cover the 3, it might even open the possibility of moving Linas, while his Olympic-numbers stock is still relatively high.
He's on a short-contract in Ukraine, so no problems getting out of it for the start of the season. It could be an interesting acquisition.
