It's no secret that attracting star players to Toronto is a monumental task. Hell, just retaining the key pieces the franchise does have can be difficult enough. Vince Carter was the first to jump ship on the franchise and he was soon followed out the door by Chris Bosh. Even Mr. Canada himself, Steve Nash, choose his family over T.O. and buckets of cash. How dare he!
But kidding aside, I think it's time we gave Mr. Colangelo some credit where credit is due. While it's true, he tried (and succeeded) turning the Raptors into a European all-star squad, it wasn't totally without purpose. There were failures, but Jose Calderon has been a great player and a class act since day one and for all his faults, Andreas Bargnani is loyal and possesses offensive prowess which cannot be denied. Of course we mustn't forget the Raptors 5th overall selection at last year's draft, Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunus, will also arrive in 2012.
With Colangelo's recent acquisitions of both SG Landry Fields and PG Kyle Lowry, the team has quality depth at almost all the skill positions. I get the feeling B.C. isn't done wheeling and dealing yet, but I like what he's done so far. Put your hands together for our GM.
