It goes without saying that Westbrook is far more athletic than Marshall. Of course Westbrook could be the most athletic PG in the NBA. Notwithstanding that I decided to look at Marshall's stats vs Westbrook's stats in their sophomore and last season in college
MPG 33.0
PPG 8.1
FG% .467
3FG% .354
FT% .696
RPG 1.3
APG 9.8
SPG 1.2
MPG 33.8 - 2011-12 - 35.3
PPG 12.7 - 2011-12 - 23.6
FG% .465 - 2011-12 - .457
3FG% .338 - 2011-12 - .316
FT% .713 - 2011-12 - .823
RPG 2.6 - 2011-12 - 4.6
APG 4.3 - 2011-12 - 5.5
SPG 1.6 - 2011-12 - 1.7
Interestingly enough overall Marshall was a slightly better shooter than Westbrook. Westbrook did score more but then he was playing with fewer scorers than Marshall. Westbrook averaged more RPG and SPG probably due to his superior athleticism.
Marshall on the other hand more than doubled Westbrook's APG.
Westbrook's PPG were clearly held down by Howland's slow style of play. However it is highly unlikely that even in a faster paced game Westbrook would have shot much better unless he scored a lot of layups off of fast breaks.
Conclusion: Westbrook is a super athletic PG who uses his superior athleticism to score and break down the defense off the dribble. Marshall on the other hand is a superior passer who uses his passing skills and superior basketball IQ to get the ball to the right teammate for baskets.
