Note-first FanPost, I`m new here. Take er easy.
I worry that BryCo is trying to fit square pegs into round holes, so to speak. It is almost as if he runs the team like a fan, and not like a general manager. Case in point-JV.
JV looks like a good centre. But, BryCo, like a fan, seems to be forgetting that this kid has no NBA-level offensive game of which to speak. Realistically, he`s Tyson Chandler. BryCo is talking him up as the `second best player in this draft`. I, along with most other rational people, would much rather have MKG, a guy who can already rebound, defend, and run the floor at an extremely high level.
I fear that the Raps are building towards an Atlanta Hawks future-perennial mediocrity. I worry that too much is being placed on a rookie with no experience in a strong league. And before you call Lithuania good basketball-remember Bargnani tore Europe up pretty good, and was terrible his first few years in the NBA.
If Colangelo wants to hit the ground running, he will have to make MAJOR changes to this team. They have no core. They have a bunch of guys who, on a good team, would be seventh and eighth men. Even when JV comes over next year, they will not be much better.
Final note: if they draft Harrison Barnes, I renounce my fandom. That guy is Luol Deng at best (which is fine, but again, 3rd option on a good team) and more realistically Marvin Williams (Hawks comparison again!). Please draft Beal and get rid of DeMar-or push him to a seventh man role where he belongs.
