Game Day Thread: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Toronto Raptors
Milwaukee Bucks at Toronto Raptors, Feb 8, 2012 7:00 PM EST
Things aren't so rosy in Milwaukee right now apparently, but that doesn't mean this should prove to be a tough game for TO. Scott Skiles' crew always plays tight D and considering Toronto's scoring woes this year (minus games against the Wizards obviously), it could be a painful viewing for Raptors' fans.
But minus Andrew Bogut, the Bucks' interior isn't so sturdy and if the Raps make it a point to attack on the inside, this could easily be a Toronto win.
GO RAPS!

Thoughts on this one?
I thought the Raps would win easy on Monday night so…let’s say this one’s a hard-fought loss.

what’s wrong with Jennings? if he decides (not) to play like he did last night this could be an easy W for the Raps.
that guy Stephen Jackson must be a real locker room cancer…
Here's a thought...
Sounds like Jennings isn’t necessarily thrilled with his surroundings so how about a TJ Ford part II? Don’t know the contract amounts off-hand but DeMar for Jennings? Hmm…lots to think about obviously, including Bayless’ role if such a move was made…

doubt it....
who would start at pg for the Bucks then?
Plus Jennings has been pretty solid this year. 20/5/3 and shooting career high in percentages and less turnovers.
Shaun Livingston?
Just thinking around draft time if DeRozan keeps struggling, maybe the Bucks do this and try to get another PG in the draft.

Good point. Livingston is playing well this season, which is nice to see

DD for Jennings?
I’d do that in a heartbeat, not sure the Bucks would though. Jennings could very well be an all-star this season, while DeMar… you know, is DeMar…
that is an interesting one. It sounds like Milwaukee might be willing to move Jennings for the right price, I just don’t know if DeMar is the right price for them

That’s what makes this idea intriguing eh? We always assume Bargs doesn’t have the trade value that BC loves to say he does, but DeRozan?
Adam Francis - Publisher - RaptorsHQ.com
Raptors could’ve done Jennings over DeRozan already. Looks like they missed the boat in 2009. I’m not sure an All-Star caliber PG for an underwhelming wing is a trade the Bucks would make.

I think that based on how highly people in the league value potential DeMar definitely has some value; perhaps not as much as Jennings but probably more than we sometimes consider

rumor...
JR smith is deciding between the Clippers and the Knicks.
wow a string of terrible plays by Jennings, and suspect body language as well. Definitely something wrong with him.
Two things I'm pondering with Bayless at the 2
1. Does this hurt DeRozan? I mean, does potentially less shots for DeMar take away his game since he’s turned into more of a jump shooter this year?
2. Does it help Jose’s offence? Looks like Bayless is looking for him more on the run right now.

I think he is a more natural 3 given his athletic ability, he just needs to get a little bulkier to hang with the bigger small forwards in the league. I think by having two guards that can handle the ball you can hide some of DeRozan’s weaknesses, mainly his ball-handling

Waaaayyyyyy better than watching Bayless struggle to run the offence.

We're seeing the upside DD here.
Making 3’s, getting steals, attacking the basket.

I just don’t see him bringing it on a consistent basis though. The overall contribution is spotty.

I agree, I can’t remember where I read it but I read that B.C wants him around

That will be a failure on Colangelo’s part. The NBA is wide open this season – there should be way more squads willing to roll the dice at the deadline. And Barbosa would look nice coming off the bench for a lot of teams.

Not the first quarter I expected
Raps up for the first time after 1 in…oh 50 games.
Not much D going on either surprisingly, both teams getting exactly what they want offensively.
Need to put a body on Gooden though in the second quarter here.

Great Shot Selection
By jackson on that one. I wonder why Skiles hasn’t been playing him the last few games
He’d be such a maddening player to have on your team. He really needs to be on a top club like a San Antonio so that he falls in line.

I’m sure the thought has crossed his mind.
Jackson seems like the type of guy who is loved by teammates and despised by everyone else. Sort of Rasheed Wallace-ish.

Yep, for sure. Kind of guy you want on your team…not playing against you, or having to coach.

Is he a free agent at the end of the year? if he is it will be interesting to see where he goes

Halftime Thoughts
Hard to know what to make of this game so far. On one hand, Raps D is non-existent, so considering they’re only down 7, you’d think if the defense steps up in the second half, Toronto grabs the W.
On the other hand, the Bucks are shooting 57% also thanks to some great offence. Smooth passing, great execution in the halfcourt, etc, etc. So we’ll see which way things go in the second half here.

This Game feels like the Wizards game
In that the Raptors are down, and are not playing well, but could get right back into the game at any moment
Bucks taking DUMB shots
They should be up by a lot more here.

+1
since he started playing the 4 more he has been a much better player. For what its worth he mostly played 4 in college
by Scott Campsall on Feb 8, 2012 8:31 PM EST up reply actions
yes playing the 4 seems to make a diff
he’s faster than most 4s on O and strong enough to keep up with some 4s of D.
I think there is a lot to be said about players making positional transitions when moving from college to the pros; I think it is something that definitely factors in, but also something that fans don’t normally consider. If you look at a player like Wes Johnson that the Wolves drafted, he was a solid college player in his last year at ’cuse but played mostly 3 and 4. But the Wolves have started him at the 2 up until recently and he has looked like a bust.

Pure YMCA ball again. No flow, lots of bad shots, lots of desperation heaves, no D.
Adam Francis - Publisher - RaptorsHQ.com
the last shot Butler just took was the definition of YMCA ball

Hahaha – I hit “post” and saw the shot thinking the same thing.
Adam Francis - Publisher - RaptorsHQ.com
in his defence...
he caught the ball with 4 seconds on the shot clock? But why is he even on the floor.
This is Raptor basketball...
We don’t have the talent to play up and down basketball, so we try and grind it out in the half court..but that doesnt change our talent level.
A few years ago when the CIS switched to 24 second shot clock they asked Dave Smart how he felt about this. People knowing Carleton is a defence first program thought that Smart would be a little nervous because of the fact it would lead to a higher tempo and more offence.
On the contrary he was ecstatic and his reason was, I feel that we are the best basketball team in the country and a 24second shot clock means there will be more possessions in a game. If there are more possessions it will make it less likely for a team to beat us. Think about it like the NCAA tournament vs the NBA playoffs. How often do you see a huge upset in the NBA vs the tournament; its because you can’t just win one game.
My point? The raptors don’t have teh same talent as most teams so Casey tries to make it less possession by running down the clock, and hopefully grinding out some wins.
this is painfully true
honestly when I check other teams’ rosters I can’t help thinking: “hey they have better players than the Raptors”.
and I mean EVERY other team.
part of it...
its kept us competitive in alot of games.
With how disappointing Davis and Derozan have been, coupled with Amir’s poor play lately and injuries, can anyone believe we have done this well, in terms of being competitive and even stealing a few games.
Three teams

Signing off here...
Unfortunately going to miss the final quarter of this masterpiece…think Scott and D Stance will be bringing it home.

Barbossa failed kindergarten
He never learned to share his toys with the other kids.
Raptors future pg
Jeremy Lin, hes ballin outta control
bah
Derozan might end with good stats but in my mind that’s just another uninspiring performance. Carlos Delfino outplayed him in the end.
