RaptorsHQ Rapid Recap - Atlanta Hawks 100 - Toronto Raptors 77

- Despite a somewhat promising opening quarter, the Dinos faltered in the second quarter and found themselves down by 19 points at the half. The large deficit would prove to be too large, as the Raptors were unable to get back into the game in subsequent quarters.

- The Raptors offense struggled once again without their leading scorer. The Dinos shot just 37% from the floor and 20% from beyond the arc. The Raps compounded their shooting struggles by taking very poor care of the basketball-as a result the team turned the ball over 19 times which lead to 27 Hawk points.

-Defense was also an adventure for the Raptors on this night. The Hawks were allowed to do pretty much anything they wished against the Raptors porous D; The Hawks shot a whopping 51% from the floor which included a number of easy buckets in the paint.

- Joe Johnson, a notorious Raptor killer, led all scorers with 30 points, while former Raptors Tracy McGrady added 15 off of the bench. Hawks starters Zaza Pachulia, Marvin Williams and Jeff Teague added to their balanced offensive attack, all scoring in double figures with 10

- On the Raptors' side of things there weren't many bright spots; however, Ed Davis' 11 rebound, 9 point night does standout. In addition Gary Forbes had another impressive outing, scoring 10 points in 16 minutes, albeit largely during garbage time.

- Leandro Barbosa returned to the lineup, but was ineffective; Barbosa netted just 4 points in 17 minutes of work. Likewise, DeMar DeRozan was also ineffective; despite coming off of an impressive 27 point performance against the Nets on Sunday, DeRozan mustered just 9 points on on 3 of 9 shooting against the Hawks.

- The Dinos are going to have to shake this one off quickly as they head into Boston for a matchup with the Celtics tomorrow night.

How come Amir had less than 14mins?

I didn’t get to see any of the game but I was curious why Amir only played less than 14 mins when I checked the box score. I know they tried to go small and it didn’t work out, but was it more than that? Is he back in Casey’s dog house?

BC and DC need to do something about Amir

He is clearly not able to handle the center position. He’s a PF.

I don’t know… He did really really well for a good stretch of games before Bargnani went down. Leading up to that Sacramento game, he put up 8 and 10, 12 and 14, 19 and 11, and 4 and 10. Bargnani being out seems to have really affected him. He has struggled at the C spot a bit, but he seemed to be putting it together there before the injury.

There was definitely a six or seven game stretch where he was putting up solid numbers and contributing positively on defense, but that was it. He started the season slow and now he’s having a hard time even staying on the court.

Now here is a rumor....

that has some believability.

While I don’t want any crippling contracts this would definitely help with the rebuild process and in my mind I think it means that BC has no desire in drafting a SF. I think it makes the team worse in the short term but definitely helps long term.

While his NY numbers tend to be unrealistic, in Denver he avg 13/5/2 with 0.7spg and 1.1 bpg. Denver also shares the load dramatically which would lower his averages, but Chandler is definitely a two way player, who is athletic and can shoot the three. On top of that he is only 24 years old.

I expected to lose Barbosa this year and hope we can get draft picks for him, not sure how I feel about Jose getting traded though as his play has been stellar. The thought of Bayless running the show with AC backing him up scares me, but it could just mean more ping pong balls.

I think Forbes would be the first backup… IF Jose were dealt…

At the same time you have to wonder who would be coming back in a trade…

Would it be a backup PG project or SG project?
