Andrea Bargnani Calf Injury Update: 'No Significant Damage'
Good news for the Toronto Raptors and their star forward-centre, Andrea Bargnani as the team announced that there was 'no significant damage' to his left calf. Bargnani reinjured his calf during Wednesday's overtime victory in Utah. Tests conducted while the team is in Denver provided the results announced on Thursday in a team press release.
Bargnani will begin treatment with no timeline given for his return. He originally injured the calf on January 11 against the Sacramento Kings. He missed six games before returning Tuesday in Phoenix where he scored 36 points in a win over the Suns.
The 26-year-old Italian started the season strong with a career-high .476 shooting percentage to along with the best defensive rebounding percentage (17.6) of his six-year career.
During Bargnani's six-game absence, Ed Davis moved into the starting lineup along side Amir Johnson. Arron Gray, however, got the start in the Raptor's last two games in Phoenix and Utah although he only played about 15 minutes in each contest.

Let's see if the Raptors' organization learns from their mistakes
Perhaps playing the guy 40+ minutes per game on back-to-back nights isn’t the smartest move in the world?

Depends on the goal – a .462 winning percentage won’t get you a top pick in the draft ;)
Might just be the smartest move they ever made.

sad but true
and trading Jose to the Knicks for Shumpert and pick could be a great move as well.
Or Jose and DD for Fields and Shumpert.
NY needs a PG, Jose would be an almost perfect fit for Amare and Carmello. He can settle the offence down and spread the ball between the two ball hogs. It might work.

I don’t think NYK can trade their picks for quite a few years. They’ve used them all up getting Amare and Melo.

No. Just flailing around trying in vain to be funny.

wait...what?
I am always saying that.
I just think I must be listening for stuff and never get what I am waiting for.
These reports by officials drive me nuts. I suppose for cmpetiveness, you keep your cards close to your chest.
As a fan…it sucks.
Was there a tear?
What exactly IS wrong with the calf?
Why did it happen again after only 2 days back?
Was it not fully healed?
Was he over played?
Is he not prepared properly pre-game for this post ingury play?
Is it just me or is there a lot of missing information here?
probably just a strain. athletes play though injuries all the time.
but I agree with your last point.

listening to Casey talk about Gray this last game
he was saying they went small and he was not able to use Gray as he wanted.
This kind of stuff is interestig because as a simple fan…I am not aware of the issues facing the staff. I didn’t realize they had gone small and Gray was sat for this reason.
And starting…who cares.
Its what you do with you time in the game.
They should have a 7th and 8th man award! Guys that come in off the bench and do a steady, solid job are relaxing.
You can make a solid living in the NBA IF you would just give quality minutes and do your thing.
I feel Casey is a Gray guy because he does what the coach wants, plays his kind of game and is not a fancy pants guy.
Did you notice it?
It is something new how Canadian media is following Andrea Bargnani, most newspaper published the updates, Raptors blog announced a post on it as soon as they had the news. It comes across as if the city has embraced him like never before
Reading to much into that
In the era of Twitter, I think getting news out as quickly as possible is the name of the game. Otherwise, you are irrelevant. I don’t see it as a reflection of the city embracing Bargs.

If he keeps playing like this year
We will continue to embrace him.
When it comes to Andrea
I feel like I’m in a episode of Sliders, where this alternate reality will end soon.
It’s good to see AB bringing some recognition to the team, albeit – because of an injury. We always complain Raps get no attention. Maybe this is part of the change that Casey is bringing.
.
I do know, that the trainers or doctors better get this right (for his return). I can understand how Casey wanted to end an embarrassing (and player morale crippling) losing streak, as well as put to rest that 2004 last win duo phenomenon (Phoenix & Utah). But the greater cause this season … is about next season. No matter how hard it is to endure some of the games – at least on the offensive side.
.
If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
the docs or trainers better get it right...
and maybe everybody just got a little lucky IF he wasn’t hurt bad.
I just don’t know who to believe anymore.
I will say this…the reason I could never play chess or any “strategy” game is I am stupid impulsive.
I need to always win and win now.
I fail at long term financing and after ALL my car research; I end up buying with my heart!!!
I guess I still have the adolescent mind, the back developed part doesn’t work or connect with the front thinking analysis part…instant gratification and return on my emotional or physical output.
Whatever…just saying I need to win now and every night…future be damned.
As an athlete, I simply could not play to win or accept my fellow teammates to do otherwise.
No 'significant damage'
Reading between the lines, this sounds like it is fairly bad. Usually the wording is ‘the MRI came back negative’ if there’s nothing, or the minor/major torn muscle, that sort of thing.
Sound like they’re using mitigating language to under play the severity of a torn muscle.
The telling thing is, the ‘out indefinitely’, yikes.
This sucks, just wanted to watch some raptors ball with the whole team healthy for like the first time ever in the history of the universe!
Go for the Kaman trade with Hornets
7 footer Kaman is exactly what the Raptors need. A big man with good defensive skills to man the middle and get the rebounds. This will allow all our low quality centers to slid down the chart so they can get back to playing their forward positions. Kaman will be an exact fit for the Raptors. Question is who can you give up that the Hornets could want? I’d offer Amir Johnson and either Barbosa or Kleiza in the package. You suffer a bit in the scoring off the bench but Kaman is a great pick up that fits what the Raptors need. I am sure Coach Casey would agree as well.
