Cousins Demands A Trade - Amir for Cousins
I think this would be a good trade for the Raptors. Cousins can definitely play the Center position and also the Power Forward position. They guy has a ton of talent. It is just a question of getting his head on straight.
Cousins Demands Trade From Kings
Jan 01, 2012 6:57 PM EST
DeMarcus Cousins has formally requested a trade and has been directed not to attend tonight’s game against the Hornets.
Kings coach Paul Westphal released the following statement:
“Whenever a new season begins, in any sport, there is great hope that everything will progress in only a steady, upward direction. As we all know, it seldom happens like that in this life!
“As coaches, we can only ask that our players do everything they can to improve themselves as individuals and teammates. If they do this with all their hearts, we live with the results.
“Everything that happens on a team does not become known to the public. This is how it should be. However, when a player continually, aggressively, lets it be known that he is unwilling/unable to embrace traveling in the same direction as his team, it cannot be ignored indefinitely.
“DeMarcus Cousins has demanded to be traded. In the best interest of our team as we go forward, he has been directed by me, with the support of management, to stay home from the New Orleans game tonight.

From a talent perspective, it would be great to add a player like Cousins. But I’m not sure the Raptors have a strong enough culture in place to warrant the headache.
Cousins would be a nice fit for San Antonio or maybe even Houston.

Cousins has so much talent
but is such a head case. he’s one of those guys that may take years (and 3 teams) to get it together (if ever)
I’m sure Westphal doesn’t help matters much though either (he seems a bit unpredictable).
From what I know of Cousins and Amir right now, I’d rather have Amir. 5 years from now… probably Cousins.

I’d like a headcase-free team, thanks.

Cousins-Casey
If Casey was able to manage Cousins, I would be open to trading any of Amir, Ed or Bargnani for him.
When JV arrives there could be a problem of positional overlap, but that would be down the road.
Biggest issue though would be whether Cousins could get his head on straight and play under Casey. Otherwise the Raptors would be just giving up something for nothing.
Cousins Has A Good Mid-Range Game
He can definitely play both Center and PF
I don’t see a problem with a rotation of Cousins, Jonas and Andrea. Cousins can rebound from both positions.
Bynum and Gasol work good together, so I see no problem with Cousins and Bargnani or Cousins and Jonas.
I’d have to watch Cousins play more to form an opinion on that, but your point seems reasonable. Other than the attitude side of things, Casey would have to control Cousins shot selection. Last seasoon, he was a very inefficient shooter.
Cousins, to me is a guy who could either have a career like Derrick Coleman, where he puts up great numbers, but never gets along with his teamates and coaches or he could be like Zack Randolph and eventually find a situation that fits him and settle down.
Was Toronto offered Beasely in Bosh's sign-and-trade to Miami?
If they were, and declined, that would suggest that they wouldn’t move for Cousins or anyone else tarred with “character issues” whether it is a fair or unfair tag.

Beasely Has A Drug Problem
I have never heard of Cousins having one.
Would Cousins disrupt the locker room?
It would be a possibility but his upside is tremendous.
Besides if Cousins does become a problem then Ed can always move into the rotation and Cousins would still have trade value if needed.
The point is that Amir is not a Center and Bargnani appears to be better as a PF. Probably because he doesn’t have to take as much of a physical beating at the PF slot. Especially with Jonas coming I don’t see Bargnani returning to play Center.
I think Cousins would make a better third man than Amir because Cousins can score and rebound better than Amir.
If Amir could add another 15+ pounds of muscle I would be opposed to the trade. At 270+ I could see him being a pretty good Center, but at 255 he is still too light.
If Cousins is throwing tantrums in Sacto, how on earth would he accept a trade to Toronto for the chance to play BEHIND a guy like Bargnani as the “third man”? Do you not think that he’d be vocal in his objections to being stuck behind a guy he could light up like a Christmas tree in practice?!

Cousins Woutd Start At Center
I had no idea that Cousins had a no-trade clause in his contract and prevent his being traded. News to me.
Do you have a link showing that Cousins could stop the Kings from trading him?
I meant “accepting” in terms of coming to grips that he had been traded to Toronto in order to back up a less talented player. That is all.

Paul Westphal hints at huge problems in Kings organization, Joe Maloof declares that DeMarcus Cousins will not be traded
Monday, January 2, 2012 – 10:19am
According to sacbee.com:
Clearly, though, the second-year center is young and emotional and yet to master the art of self-censoring. It’s what mothers have been telling their children for generations: It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.“I think it’s time for this solution,” Westphal said before Sunday’s victory over the New Orleans Hornets. “There are many, many things that go on behind closed doors in this business that is nobody’s business. Certainly you’ve heard the cliché, ‘the tip of the iceberg.’ This is certainly the tip of the iceberg.”
-—————————————————-
Seriously? Cousins wants to be traded? The Kings would be nuts to entertain a single phone call, which apparently are not. “We leave that stuff (the benching) to the basketball people,” Kings co-owner Joe Maloof said before tipoff, “but we’re not trading him.”
Cousins
If we could trade Ed for him it would be a no brainer. They both look like two talented bigs but Cousins has that extra talent Davis lacks. Ed has not seemed engaged the last few games and it is likely a sophomore slump, but still not a good sign this early in the season.
Amir for Demarcus is tougher because Amir’s attitude are a real asset to the Raps. and the Kings might view Ed’s upside as more appealing than Amir’s hustle. I prefer Amir’s hustle and for JV to anchor the D, Demarcus to be the main man at both ends of the floor and for Andrea to provide Offensive punch upfront with Amir as a backup looks pretty appealing.
My trade proposal
Bargnani and Ed Davis for Cousins, Outlaw, and the Kings 2012 1st round draft pick (probably protected to the top 5) or the following year’s 1st pick.
The Raptors do this to get a young talented and troubled C/PF and get rid of Bargnani’s contract in a face-saving way. The Kings do this to get rid of Outlaw’s horrible contract while picking up a young talented and underperforming (so far this year) PF. Both team’s might end up waiving the big contracts at the next opportunity.
Celtics Interested in Cousins
‘The Boston Herald’ is reporting that Celtics management has made inquiries into the availability of Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins. We wouldn’t take the discussions to be too serious, as most teams have been making these types of phone calls after the Kings recent suspension of Cousins. Additionally, the Celtics likely have limited trade assets to deal for Cousins unless Rajon Rondo is included in the conversation.
According to Boston Herald:
The Celtics, like most teams, have called Sacramento to gauge what it would take to trade for DeMarcus Cousins. The young, disgruntled Kings center has been suspended from the team for his disagreements with coach Paul Westphal.
"It’s highly unlikely," a league source said of the Celtics’ chances of landing Cousins. "I’m not sure that any team is going to get him. The thing is that everyone knows he’s a wreck. They’re not going to get what he’s worth."
