Jonas continues strong Eurobasket play
Lithuania may have lost to Russia in their latest Eurobasket warm up game, but one player stood out. Jonas had a game-high 16 rebounds to go with his 13 points.
Can't find a box score but I'd assume Jonas was given more minutes than normal due to the injuries to Robertas Javtokas and Darius Songaila. Either way, very nice to see Jonas pulling down 16 boards going against an NBA center in Timofey Mozgov.
I wish the article also gave some JV stats for the win against Latvia but I'll guess we'll just have to make do with these little recaps until the actual Eurobasket starts on the 31st.

Jonas Highlights
of game against russia.

Jonas started and played 32 minutes.
5/8 FG, 3/8 FT, 13 pts, 16 rbds, 1 PF, 2 TO
Nice to see with the heavy usage Jonas was able to keep out of foul trouble and limit his turnovers. Also of note is that Mozgov mustered only 3 rbds playing against Jonas.

More Highlights
This time from the Latvia game.

Jonas came off the bench and played 15 minutes.
1/2 FG, 3/4 FT, 5 pts, 6 rbds, 4 PF, 3 TO
Looks like the foul trouble limited his minutes here, obviously something he needs to continue to work on. Other than that, very solid production considering the amount of time spent on the court.

I Think He Was Fatigued
I saw the game and read Kemzūra’s (LTU head coach) comments about him after the game. He said that Jonas concentration level was down.
Concentration level will fall with fatigue
Lower concentration due to fatigue and just plain outright fatigue will often lead to more fouls by an active defender. That is my guess what happened to him vs Latvia
It was LTU third game in three days and the two previous games/days Jonas had logged about 50 minutes going up mostly against Mozgove and M. Gasol, two guys that are stronger than he is at this time in his career at 19 years old. Both of those games were very physical so my guess is that fatigue definitely played a big role in his sub-par performance vs Latvia.
When players are fatigued and really don’t want to play due to being tired they tend to commit fouls which reduces their minutes in a game.
I have seen Amir do this countless times after he has been on the court for long stretches of time, usually upwards of 10 minutes straight without being substituted for. You can see that he is winded and tired and he will often commit a foul or two just to force the coach to take him out.
I don’t think that is what happened with Jonas in the sense of being winded or out of gas because his first two fouls were incurred within his first three minutes on the court. He just was not concentrating, probably due to the fatigue. They were dumb fouls.
