The Future Begins Today
So, here we are, one game into the Finals, 20 something days away from the draft, and taking the first major step in building the "New Toronto Raptors."
With the decision to replace Jay Triano announced today, and talk of finding a coach of experience, reputation, and DEFENSE, Raptor fans can begin to seriously believe in a brighter future.
Who will take over Colangelo's collection of youth, talent, projects and pieces? Well, we just don't know.
What we do know is that change is upon us.
Will the team find a new coach in time to have his input on the upcoming draft?
Will the player drafted help to further demonstrate a willingness by Colangelo to redefine the stigma of the "soft team" that he has assembled to date? Will suspicious fans have their fears confirmed with the drafting of another "Euro-All Star", NBA bust?
How about this tidbit of thought? It was also announced today that Minnesota has come to an agreement with Ricky Rubio to play next season, to play in the NBA to clarify. Can Colangelo work some magic, moving Jose to mentor the young padawin in the ways of the force? ... er the NBA...? Could he somehow coerce their number two pick to be included in such a deal? "This is not the pick you're looking for..."
One can only dream, for now. We are fast approaching a pivotal and exciting time in our franchise's history.
The King is dead. Long live the King!
A new era may well be upon us.

Me too JT.
I get the Spanish connection idea, bu I think they have a pretty good mentor type in Ridnour. Ridnour’s contract is very reasonable. I personally would not want Calderon for over twice the price. That’s just me though…

How about Bargs for Wes Johnson, Flynn and pick #20??? It may not work via a trade machine because they do not use the right BYC value for Bargs. I have done the math though and it would work. We get a couple of potential guys, plus a pick. We clear a little space, and get rid of the most hated man around these parts…

Is Wesley Johnson any good? I’ve read talk in the national media that he’s been misused, asked to camp out on the perimeter instead of play more of a natural SF. However, this is the same song that Minnesota fans sing regarding Jonny Flynn, woefully misused by Rambis. It’s also possible that these guys just “are what they are”, and another year or two in the NBA would make that clear to everyone in the NBA, and obliterate any chance to trade them more on potential then actual production.
It would be funny if the only real result of the trade for Beasely was that they both lowered their offensive efficiency and stunted the growth of their most recent top pick.
Now somewhere I could see Calderon being useful is Memphis. They did not really have a back up point. He could be a solid bench guy there. If there is any truth to the idea that BC will try to get Gay, maybe Calderon is included. Spanish Connection equals Marc Gasol…

Possible coaching candidates
Dwayne Casey: did very well when he coached the T-wolves whne the team was going downhill. had them playing .500 ball
Mike Woodson: showed excellent skills in developping a young team as he did with the Atlanta Hawks. he could do the same w/ Toronto.
Rick Adelman: Did a great job keeping an oft injured Houston Rockets team in the playoff hunt.
Any others come to mind?

Cheeks is the latest rumour
Apparently, Maurice Cheeks is another rumoured candidate. I prefer Casey to Cheeks, but he wouldn’t be MC wouldn’t be a terrible option.
