Why is Kanter Being Overlooked at Number 1?
While everyone has the Cleveland Cavaliers picking either Duke's Kyrie Irving or the University of Arizona's Derrick Williams, no one has mentioned a player who can possibly be the best player in the NBA Draft. Enes Kanter is as best as they come and in my opinion, should be the consensus first overall pick. Just look at this guy. He's 7 foot, 250 pounds and has such a soft touch, excellent back to the basket game along with sweet soft stroke and excellent range. Here's a guy that has so much upside and has the tools to be a star in the league, yet is projected to go down to the fifth pick and lower. How is that possible?
Maybe it is because there is so little tangible data on him. All that NBA scouts really have to go by is that 30 point game he posted in the Nike Hoop Summit. Other than that, there is little but nothing else. As a result of eligibility issues, Kanter was not able to play for the University of Kentucky Wildcats and thus dimished his stock. However, let's just image if Kanter were allowed to play--I'm sure it would have been magical. Just look at how smooth and fluid his game is. And that is coming from a big man. The Widcats would have surely been NCAA Champions if Kanter were allowed to play.
It's just too bad that Kanter did not have that chance to showcase his skills. He spent all season on the bench at Kentucky becuase of his ineligibility to play. He would have shown able to show more and scouts would have a better idea of what they are dealing with. Hopefully common sense will take precedence as the Cavs will take into account that you can't teach 7 feet and 250 pounds--especially one with the skill set that Kanter has. He can possibly be the next Dirk Nowitzki, or even better. And in the case for Cleveland, what better piece to use for its massive rebuild that a big man with diverse skills such as Kanter?

Risk
Tons of potential but the risk of flopping will make him slip out of the top 3. I love the guy and think he would be an amazing pick for the Raptors (even if they hang on to Bargs) but Cleveland is probably thinking that they will be able to get him at 4 if Utah keeps the pick. He’s a very special player but he’s not a guy that teams are going to be radically trading up to get. I am more surprised that Derrick Williams isn’t the pick at 1 considering that there are 2 (3 if your high on Walker) top point guards who could be available at the 4th pick.
Probaly because he is not that good.
In any other draft he would be a late first rounder at best, I think he will be the next Cole Aldrich.
