Golden State Warriors End of Season Wrap Up
Predicted Outcome: 25-57, fifth place Pacific Division
Finished: 36-46, third place Pacific Division
Things are looking up in the Bay Area. After a rather forgettable and regrettable season, the Golden State Warriors proved themselves worthy of their nickname. When many onlookers had them again at the bottom of the Pacific, the Warriors proved their critics wrong improving by winning ten more games than they did last season. Despite not making the playoffs, the Warriors brought hope to fans that have suffered for long watching their team trudge through futility.
One of the most pleasant surprises for Warriors fans was the maturation and coming of age of Monta Ellis. Once considered a selfish and immature team pariah, Ellis stepped up to provide leadership on this young and developing team. Ellis not only led his team in scoring (24.1ppg), he also stepped up his defense leading his team in steals as well. So much had changed as he grew with each game more confident in his role as leader of this team. He was certainly a major factor in the Warriors’ resurrection to respectability.
Ellis even proved many of his critics wrong as he showed that he could coexist with his backcourt mate, sharpshooting point guard Stephen Curry. Many had their doubts that these two players would be able to let go of the basketball, let alone share it between each other. Both players are virtually identical in the way they play. They both have the reputation of wanting to have the basketball in every situation. However, some way, somehow both Ellis and Curry found a way to make things work and their team benefited greatly from their mutual coexistence. (To be continued)
